Come to the First Diocesan Gabriel Project Conference with guest speaker, Dr. Marcella Colbert, Respect Life Director for the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston, Texas. On Sunday, August 23rd. Dr. Colbert will meet with priests of the diocese for a dinner meeting at Wadhams Hall. On Monday, August 24th., Dr. Colbert will address both priests, deacons, religious and laity at Wadhams Hall. Those presently involved in the Gabriel Project, a parish based crisis pregnancy ministry, and those interested in finding out more about the Gabriel Project are welcome to join in these offerings.  Declaration of Dependence

The eagle is a national symbol, a symbol of freedom and strength.

In the Book of Deuteronomy (ch. 32) we read how the eagle watches over her young. When she teaches them how to fly, she sends them out from the nest and then hovers over them. They fly a little; and when they become tired, the eagle swoops down under them, spreads her wings, and makes a kind of landing strip to receive them and bear them up again. The young ones are ultimately dependent on the strength of the eagle.

In verse II we read that God is like the eagle, the Chosen People were like the nestlings. Verse 12 tells us: “The Lord alone was their leader.”

On July 4th. we celebrate the birthday of our great nation. We commemorate the signing of our Declaration of Independence.

Our Declaration most assuredly acknowledged God as our Creator, the author of our life and our freedom. In declaring our independence, we embraced the ultimate truth that has set us free and has kept us free, namely, that we are dependent on God. We will continue to be strong, independent, and free, as long as we acknowledge this dependence.

 Looking For a Nice Feeling?

Are you looking for a nice, warm fuzzy feeling? One of the ways human beings get those kinds of feelings is by helping others, directly or indirectly. There’s no feeling in the world like the one you get when you reach out to another fellow human being and help that person through a troubled time. How do you do that? You leave something from your Will or estate plan to our parish who in turn will be doing Christ’s work long after you are gone.

 Leaving Your Affairs in Order

The following are steps to make sure your life is in order before God calls you:

1)         Draft a Will

2)         Leave enough liquid cash in an obvious location to sustain your survivors to pay the expenses of your estate.

3)         Plan your own funeral

4)         Leave no financial debt

5)         Write your own obituary

6)         Organize your records

7)         Choose a time to openly discuss these plans with loved ones .

 What Happens to Your Retirement Money When You Don’t Use It?

Many tax advisors recommend serious consideration be given to naming one or more of your favorite charities as the beneficiary of your retirement plans if you do not have a surviving spouse. Why? There is 100% income tax deduction and 100% estate tax deduction for all retirement money that passes to a qualified charity. That means that if you name our parish as the beneficiary of one or more of your retirement plans or IRAs, 100 cents on the dollar of retirement money goes to our parish instead of a smaller portion that may pass on to others after taxes.

IHC Seeks Host Families for International Students

Some additional host families will be needed for international students applying to Immaculate Heart Central Jr/Sr High School for the 2009-10 school year. The visiting students pay all their own tuition, insurance, school & personal expenses. The host family receives a stipend of $5500 ($550 per month) for each international student. All you need is an extra bed & willingness to offer support, discipline & love as needed. Neighbors of Watertown, Inc. Neighbors of Watertown, Inc., in cooperation with Snowbelt Housing, is pleased to announce our new Foreclosure Prevention Counseling Program. This counseling program is available to anyone, regardless of income, that is late or concerned about becoming late on their mortgage payments. The goal of this program is not only to assist defaulting homeowners to remain in their homes, but to also positively impact local communities by preserving the integrity of the neighborhoods, preventing increased levels of abandonment or substandard housing stock, continuing support for the community though property tax contributions & avoiding additional stress to community outreach programs. All of our services are free of charge & available to anyone in Jefferson or Lewis Counties. No referral is needed; interested individuals from Jefferson County may simply contact our office at 315-782-8497.

Pilgrimage to France: Fr. Scott Fobare, Pastor of St. Patrick’s in Port Henry and All Saints in Mineville is leading a pilgrimage to France from April 7-17, 2010. The trip will include Paris, Lisieux (home of St.  Theresa), Monte-St. Michel, Poitiers ( Church of St. Mary),  Nevers (home of St. Bernadette), Paray-le-Monial (where our Lord appeared to St. Margaret Mary), Lyon, Toulouse and Lourdes (where Mary appeared in 1858 proclaiming herself the “Immaculate Conception).
